It’s the morning after the night before and coffee is calling. Shouting, even. The first stop for many a weary Brisbanite is Morning After, a bright and light cafe dishing up delicious fare and most importantly, great coffee.
Located in the heart of Brisbane’s West End, the brand-new cafe is owned and operated by Soula and Yianni Passaris, a mother-and-son team who has a long history in hospitality. With their newest venture, they have created a space where new and old friends can meet over delicious dishes, made using only the best locally sourced produce.
They’ve enlisted Elliot Gotovac as the Head Chef to bring this concept to life. Originally from Canberra, he worked his way through a number of cool cafes before making his way to sunny Queensland. In the kitchen, he uses as much fresh and local produce as possible, sourcing honey from Bee One Third rooftop honey, granola from The Unrefined and avocados from around the state.
These raw ingredients translate into dishes like smashed avocado, with peas, feta, pistachio and lemon, and granola with seasonal fruit, Bee One Third honey and yoghurt.
Those with a sweet tooth are spoilt for choice: do you go for the vanilla hotcakes, served with apple, honeycomb and cardamom mascarpone? Or is it the key lime pie, made with chia, meringue, pickled pineapple and kaffir lime?
Adventurous eaters will also be rewarded by Elliot’s creations: try the breakfast pasta, swirled with mushrooms, smoked pancetta and pecorino romano, and topped with a 63-degree egg. It’s the first step to knocking off any lingering headaches.
Brekky is available all day, but come 11:30am, additional lunch-themed flavours come into play. Bucatini is mixed with kale pesto, spinach puree and pistachio, while the cheeseburger is a hunger-buster, served with bacon, pickles and onion, and slathered with ‘dijonnaise’ and jalapeno jam.
This considered approach also applies to the coffee offerings. Soula and Yianni have chosen two different coffee roasters for their blends – Uncle Joe’s and Five Senses – giving customers a bit more variety when it comes to their morning brew.
Morning After looks after all your morning after needs – from coffee to breakfast pasta, there’s no struggle they can’t fix.
