Transport yourself back to the 1800s at The Gresham bar; set in the gorgeous heritage-listed National Australia Bank building, dating back to 1808.
Conceptualised by Paul Piticco, Denis Sheahan and Andrew Baturo, also the owners of Heya Bar and Libertine, the trio have yet again hit the mark with their newest venture.
Located in Gresham Laneway on the corner of busy Queen Street, The Gresham is a humble escape from the city chaos, providing an ambient and private space to enjoy a tipple or two. Upon entering you’ll be taken aback by The Gresham’s old-world charm, created by its oak interior and mood lighting – which is fabricated from the backlit spirit showcase that lights up the entire room.
The Gresham prides itself on its high calibre of rum, whisky and wine, along with an extensive cocktail list made up of unfamiliar yet delicious flavour combinations. With all this and more, it is no surprise that The Gresham was awarded “Bar of the Year” by Australian Gourmet Traveller Restaurant Awards 2016.
The Gresham’s extensive whisky selection will not disappoint, but there’s also an evolving range of beers and ciders for those inclined. If you’d prefer a cocktail that combines earthy, sweet and sour flavour sensations try the Midnight Rambler, made up of gin, lavender, blueberry, vermouth, lemon and bitters.
Or, what about something warm on a (not so) cold Brisbane winter’s night? Go for the Boilermaker’s Blues – black beer, rum, ginger, brown sugar and grated spices served warm. But, if you’d rather let your imagination run a little wild or simply want to go back to basics, the bar staff are pleased to assist and concoct a unique blend just for you.
Although small in size, the space is impacted by seven-metre high ceilings, occupied with Chesterfield couches, lamps and original dark floorboards, combining a London gentleman’s club and New York–cigar bar feel. Along with its extensive drinks selection, The Gresham has an old school ambience about it, making it the perfect location to relax with a drink for hours on end or meet a couple of friends for a catch up.
So let yourself escape to a time when everything seemed so simple, and with the impressive cocktail selection I can assure you that you’ll be back time and time again to tick off each cocktail off your “must try” list.
