Since opening its doors in May 2014, Cowch Dessert Cocktail Bar has been hard at work fulfilling Brisbane’s sweet cravings. Tempting customers with signature desserts, devilish cocktails and a range of breakfast treats – Cowch has positioned itself as a haven for sweet-tooths and liquor lovers to unite.
The concept came about as the result of Arif Memis’ dream to open a bar, and his wife’s dream to open a dessert shop. The dream grew from an ordinary bar and standard cake shop, to a combination of the two passions as a cocktail and dessert bar. The pair’s main goal was to create a space that was bright and inviting, warm and sophisticated: a place where anyone would feel comfortable to come together and indulge.
Having tried his hand in the finance and construction industries, Arif’s first foray into hospitality has resulted in a Brisbane first, a bar that caters to both the sweet-toothed and cocktail-crazy. He has paired margaritas with churros, and a glass of bubbles with fondue, proving that a sweet treat is better enjoyed when teamed with a cheeky cocktail.
With a kids’ menu, customisable ‘Naked Pop’ ice creams and an impressive cocktail and drinks menu, the venue caters for the young and the young at heart. It also expertly covers all stages of the day with breakfast commencing at 7am, and doors remaining open until late. Serving up a range of sweet and savoury options, you can have anything from hotcakes and a smoothie, to a cheese platter and a glass of wine.
Cowch’s signature range includes the ever-popular dessert pizzas. With delicious combinations such as strawberries and cream, nutty banana, mocha madness, or crunchy smores – they’re a dessert lover’s heaven. They also offer mini sliders on sweet brioche bread, with either frozen yogurt or ice cream, and a shot of hot melted chocolate.
Comfort food tastes even better in a comfortable space. With an open plan design built to mirror a large family kitchen, the wide tables, warm atmosphere and welcoming setting are all key to the Cowch journey. Arif wanted to create a place where everyone would feel at home, and its safe to say he has achieved just that.
Grey steel accents complement the white interiors, with large loungers pleading with you to relax with a cocktail and cake in hand. The large timber communal table sits by the inviting fireplace perfect for a winter warmer and large groups. Wherever you sit, don’t forget to look up: the unique light fittings will
Situated on Grey Street, the cocktail mecca is just a stone’s throw from the cultural precinct and some of Brisbane’s liveliest nightlife. Arif said, “Brisbane is new to me, but Brisbane is now home. It captures your heart and soul and shows you the beauty of the people. It slows you down and allows you to breathe. I am starting to understand the pride of Queensland.”
And what better for Brisbane locals after a balmy evening stroll than a restorative Lychee Sour and a chilled dessert? Open from 7am until late, Cowch really is the sweet-tooth’s idea of heaven.
