In busy West End, a lavish laneway leads you to a boutique craft-beer brewery and bar, where an airy beer garden, timber features and industrial aesthetic combine to become the perfect inner-city escape.
Brisbane Brewing Co was formed by Grant and Michelle Clark 12 years ago. As owners of the popular Brewhouse Brisbane, a lively pub in Woolloongabba, they were perfectly placed to open their own bar. With this in mind and a lucky discovery in the heart of West End, they decided to open Brisbane Brewing Co.
Initially, Brisbane Brewing Co was nothing but an alleyway leading to a rundown warehouse. However, Michelle and Grant have successfully transformed it into a modern industrial set up, successfully showcasing Brisbane’s craft-beer scene.
If you hadn’t guessed already, beer is the hero of the venue. You’ll be able to choose from eight house beers, or the 70+ bottles of craft beer from all over the world. However, that’s not all that’s on offer. Michelle explained, “One misconception is that we are just beer, but we have a very solid cocktail, shooter and wine offering as well. Whilst our craft-beer range fluctuates, we have about five or six staple beers that we brew all year round”.
Word is you’d be crazy to step foot in to Brisbane Brewing Co and not try the Brissy Pils, an organic pilsner with a hoppy herbal bouquet of NZ Wakaitu, building up with medium malty body and finishing with a crisp drying bitterness. If pale ale is more your thing, the signature BPA – Brisbane Pale Ale – is bursting with a punchy mix of passionfruit, tropical citrus flavours and a malty body to balance, with a mild sweetness to it.
For those looking to keep the momentum after a Sunday sesh, bring your Mondays back to life with Brisbane Brewing Co’s Mexi-Mondays and start your week with a signature margarita.
To complement the beverages, you’ll find a delicious array of sliders and charcuterie platters to share, or for the serious diners, there’s also a full Modern-Australian style-dining menu.
Brisbane Brewing Co attracts its own audience due to its prime location; when walking along Boundary Street, you’ll pass the wrought iron gates and won’t be able to resist discovering what lies behind. Its glowing laneway is filled with scattered fairy lights and striped umbrellas leading you to the main bar, with ample seating and an industrial chic, laid-back style.
The perfect location for beers on a hot summers day, it’s also the best spot for expert insight from bar staff and a great venue for groups.
Brisbane Brewing Co is distinctively Brisbane. With its intimate garden design and robust beverage selection, it’s the perfect place for a drink or two.
