The Restaurant at the Legian Bali redefines Seminyak dining. The elegant, Balinese-inspired restaurant combines a poolside position with fabulous fine dining and a relaxed ambiance, making for the perfect place to spend a morning, afternoon or night.
Open for all three main meals of the day, The Legian Bali’s signature restaurant offers local dishes, a classic international menu and light bites throughout the day. As the sun starts to set, the restaurant and the complementary Ocean and Pool Bars come into their own, presenting enviable cocktail and dining menus.
The hotel itself opened 20 years ago and while a majority of the team has been there since the beginning, Australian-born Head Chef, Luke Macleod, joined the kitchen team in 2014. Luke’s vision to create a dining experience that would amaze each and every guest was perfectly suited to The Legian’s aim to provide exceptional service and memorable meals.
Luke trained in Australia before spending nearly a decade working in two and three Michelin-starred restaurants around France and then making the move to South East Asia. Since joining The Legian, Luke has fired up the kitchen team and pushed them to create outstanding dining experiences.
Moving to Bali escalated Luke’s love of seafood. Living and working so close to the ocean inspired him to use plenty of local seafood in the menu, but his appreciation for the region’s produce extends beyond this. He works closely with local farmers, creating personal relationships and seeking out the best products they have to offer. There are some important international products too, including the best French olive oil, and Australian beef and lamb. For Luke it’s all about creating stories within dishes while also ensuring that the meals are of exceptional quality.
For the opportunity to sample a wide variety of flavours and textures without seriously overindulging, choose the tasting, or degustation menu. Start your evening with the sea urchin bisque and move onto the sea bream, crab, and oyster tartare served with sour passionfruit beurre blanc, tagliatelle of carrot, shiso and avocado seasoned with sea wood salt. Make sure you save room for dessert. A popular choice is the Bali berries and cream with raspberry parfait, strawberry gel, hazelnut praline, minute sponge and dolce chocolate.
No matter what you choose from the menu, you can be sure you will find the perfect wine to pair it with. The Legian has a wine list with more than 280 selections, ranging from local Indonesian wines to some of the most coveted and rare wines in the world, including La Tache 2002, Penfold’s Grange and many more.
If you prefer something fruitier then you will love the cocktail list. While signature cocktails including the Bedugul strawberry daiquiri or the chilli and passion martini are a must-have, don’t forget the classics – you can’t go past a fresh mojito on a warm, tropical evening.
Whether you’re a guest or just dropping by, The Restaurant has something for you. See first hand how Luke’s international experience and innovative approach combine to produce outstanding culinary creations, while enjoying a carefully curated drinks list and impeccable service.
