Visitors to Stone’s Throw restaurant now only have to travel, well, a stone’s throw, for pre- or post-dinner drinks. The team behind the successful restaurant has just opened a small bar at the front of its space, offering yet another option for visitors to the area.
The new bar features South Australian wine from boutique, local producers, imported European wines and a great selection of gin. Both classic and modern cocktails are on offer and if you’re after something refreshing try the blackberry bourbon iced tea with Maker’s Mark bourbon whisky, blackberry liqueur, Earl Grey syrup and soda, or a Roseheart Coupé containing spiced rum, raspberry rose syrup, lime and pineapple juice.
Like the restaurant, the bar menu focuses on seasonal, local food. Chef, Quentin Whittle, formerly of The Stranded Store at Colonel Light Gardens, has designed a sharing menu inspired by the flavours of the Mediterranean, Asia and the Middle East. To start, you could have fried halloumi with red grapes, a selection of charcuterie and cheese, and chicken liver parfait with roasted satsuma plums and fruit sourdough. Follow this with something a bit more substantial like the braised beef brisket burger served on a brioche bun with kimchi and Adelaide-made MOTA sauce or slow-roasted tomatoes, goat curd and grilled focaccia.
Alternatively, after a pre-dinner drink and a light starter, you could head into the main restaurant for a meal. There are a number of dining room options, including the light and airy atrium, the mailroom or the outdoor courtyard.
The menu changes regularly to match the seasons but you might find dishes like melt-in-the-mouth pan-fried gnocchi with thyme-roasted pears, blue cheese, hazelnuts and shiso, or slow-roasted Fleurieu lamb shoulder with baba ghanoush and fregula tabbouleh. If you’re not sure what to choose, leave the decision-making to the chef and try the tasting menu. You’ll be served approximately seven dishes including daily specials and dessert or cheese. Then retire to the front bar for a nightcap of house-made limoncello or a sweet Sainte-Croix-du-Mont botrytis semillon.
The addition of the front bar makes Stone’s Throw a great place to go for a night out, whether it’s after-work drinks, a date night, a girls’ night out or a birthday. Gin any Phoenix tonic water are on special on Thursdays and happy hours are from 4pm to 7pm, Tuesday to Friday.
