A visit to Panacea Restaurant promises to rid you of all your ills. And that’s not just because the restaurant’s name is taken from the Greek word for “cure all”.

Seven years ago Panacea opened with a notion that nourishing simple food is the best medicine. This philosophy was inspired by the founder’s time travelling through Europe and the Mediterranean.

The Head Chef, Phil Brown – a man truly passionate about good food – keeps this notion alive though his exquisite, uncomplicated cooking. Phil worked all over New Zealand honing his craft, until eventually opening his own restaurant. He also worked in Sydney before settling in Adelaide to take control of Panacea’s kitchen.

The menu at Panacea focuses on clean, quality food prepared with locally sourced ingredients. The menu changes according to seasonal produce but classic dishes always stay the same, “If we changed the pork belly, there would be riots,” Phil said.

While breakfast staples such as smashed avocado and brioche French toast are featured on the menu, there are also a range of ever-changing dishes to brighten your morning. The menu also features innovative gluten free dishes for those with intolerances, including corn and cumin cakes with house-made beans, avocado, spicy tomato salsa and rocket.

The tapas style lunch and dinner menu was purpose built for sharing. Start with a serving of crumbed olives, chicken liver pâté and white anchovies, then continue by choosing a selection of plates from the extensive sharing menu. Panacea classics include the famous 12-hour confit pork belly, Gina’s

meatballs and baked scallops with tarragon butter.

For the more traditional there are also entrées and mains available such as twice-cooked duck leg confit, the 350g sirloin steak with hand cut chips, or the roasted pumpkin risotto, best enjoyed with a green salad.

Then there is the extensive pizza menu! Keep it simple with a fresh margherita or spice up the night with the Three Little Pigs pizza, which comes with smoked bacon, chorizo, pork belly and chilli.

Panacea takes advantage of the fact it is located in the middle of many well-known wine regions – Barossa, McLaren Vale, Fleurieu Peninsula, Murraylands and Riverland – with more than 40 wine selections by the glass, both local and international. Beer buffs will love the large range of brews on offer, while cocktail connoisseurs will appreciate all the classics.

Finish your night off with a round, or two, of churros and then stay a while. The relaxed and comfortable atmosphere is complemented by an indoor all weather courtyard and an open fire during winter, so there is no doubt that Panacea will make you feel at home.
