When you combine an award-winning winery with an Australian sporting icon, the result is the exquisite Hill of Grace Restaurant.
Partnering with local wine powerhouse, Henschke, the Adelaide Oval Stadium Management Authority has encompassed what makes South Australia shine, pairing the Hill of Grace Restaurant’s seasonal menu, full of fresh produce, with a diverse range of South Australian wines.
Head Chef, Dennis Leslie, who trained under the ‘father of fusion’ Cheong Liew, is at the forefront of the restaurant. Dennis presents dishes incorporating influences from his Filipino heritage paired with native Australian ingredients and French cooking techniques. A produce-driven philosophy underscores the menu, with a strong focus on using seasonal produce grown locally.
Guests have the option of a degustation or a la carte menu, with the opportunity to add matching wines. Degustation devotees will love the eight- course experience, starting with kinilaw lobster, ginger, shallots, soy and cane vinegar and sweet red chilli cracker; accompanied by the Henschke 2013 Croft Chardonnay, poured early to unfold. Move onto the Ginataan quail with karkalla and salt bush, paired with a 2013 Joseph Hill Gewürztraminer, before sampling the betamax – chocolate custard, shaved chocolate, bacon juice and crispy speck, served with the 2013 Johann’s Garden Grenache Mataro Shiraz.
The a la carte menu is just as impressive, starting with an amuse-bouche and longanisa, served with a poached egg and garlic chips. Entrées include roasted heirloom carrots with carrot mousse, carrot gel, goat’s curd, carrot jamand black dirt; or sinigang with marron, native lemongrass, radish, rainforest cherry and native tamarind. Move onto the inasal duck with mushrooms and pork liver sauce; or the kare kare with kangaroo tail, okra, eggplant, greens, squid bagoong and peanut chards. Finish the decadent dining with a tres leche cake, served with cumquat marmalade, calamansi curd, calamansi sorbet and crunchy mandarin.
The fantastic fare is more than a match for Henschke’s incredible collection. The entire 160 bottle wine list consists of South Australian drops, but it’s headlined by the acclaimed Hill of Grace range, produced by Henschke at the Hill of Grace vineyard in the Eden Valley. This unique collaboration means the restaurant is home to the world’s only complete set of Hill of Grace wines on display – a priceless collection that dates from 1958 to the most current release.
Diners are offered an opportunity to sample tipples that can’t be found elsewhere, with an enomatic wine dispenser providing diners a 50ml, 100ml or 150ml glass of the internationally renowned Shiraz, as well as other museum and back vintage Henschke wines.
If 160 bottles sounds like too many to choose from, turn to the staff for the perfect pairing – they know how to turn a fantastic meal into a magnificent dining experience, with the wine pouring an occasion in itself.
With the spectacular Adelaide Oval acting as the backdrop, the bright and airy Hill of Grace Restaurant has the trifecta when it comes to fine dining: fabulous food, decadent drinks and an unsurpassed view. Get in quick!
