Antica Pizzeria e Cucina is an Italian restaurant that draws flavours from all over Italy into one dining experience. Located in Hyde Park, the restaurant serves traditional Italian food, including delicious wood-oven pizzas and fresh pasta.
Prior to opening in 2013, owner Anthony Crea took several trips to Italy. He wanted to gain a solid understanding of the country’s traditional flavours before he began to cook for the Adelaide clientele. With a background in hospitality and retail, this travel helped Anthony develop ideas for the restaurant. Combining his travelling adventures and Italian background with Head Chef, Paolo Rosina’s culinary skills, Antica is infused with rustic Italian cooking.
Paolo has eight years of cooking experience throughout Italy and understands the importance of sharing meals and dining together. Paolo’s enthusiasm and passion for the Italian cuisine has been reflected in the dishes he creates for Antica.
Boasting a team of chefs from all different regions of Italy, the food at Antica is a combination of the best Italian flavours. The menu focuses on traditional Italian dishes, with a large selection of pizzas, pastas and mains. High quality ingredients such as 00 flour and San Marzano tomato sauce are imported to recreate the authentic flavours but all the dishes are made with fresh ingredients wherever possible.
Start your night with a selection of antipasti including Italian cured meats and cheeses, polenta chips and fresh local squid, battered and served with house made mayonnaise. Move onto the Crudo e Rucola pizza – fior di latte and olive oil topped with prosciutto di parma, rocket and shaved parmesan. Antica also serves one-metre long pizzas to share, cooked in a wood-fire oven all the way from Italy, which you can enjoy with toppings of your choice.
The restaurant provides a variety of both local and imported wines to enhance the Italian dining experience. Local wines are from South Australia, as well as imports from a variety of different Italian regions. The menu also boasts a sweet wine – an Italian DOCG moscato that mixes a muscat grape juice with floral aromas and a gentle mineral finish.
Local Adelaide designer and family member, Franco Crea, designed Antica’s aesthetic appearance. Franco mixed his modern style with rustic Italian architecture when designing the restaurant. The alfresco takes clients back to the boot shaped country with marble tops and a traditional wood-fire oven imported from Italy. The custom furniture and wrought iron fencing combined with exposed brick walls creates an Italian aesthetic, allowing clients to enjoy an authentic dining experience.
While in the Italian language, the word Antica means ‘old’, Anthony chose this name for his restaurant as he believes the word represents the restaurant’s traditional and rustic approach to cooking. A dining experience at Antica showcases the best Italian flavours from all over the country.
